Went to Dartmoor for a couple of days walking and cycling with my wife and kids. We had heard about Fox Tor as anyone interested in Dartmoor seems to talk about it. We also had family friend who had come down with friends recently, he was raving about how the cafe had improved since the new owners had taken over last year. He brought a copy of Active Magazine up with him and showed us an article written about the cafe. We eventually got down to Dartmoor, the mist and rain is one of the only down falls of the Moors, anyway, got into Princetown for about 9isham went straight into Fox Tor Cafe as we were looking forward to one of their large breakfasts, the place was packed!! We put our order in after finally getting our turn, we got a seat near to the log-burner, we sat for about 10 minuets before a nice chap came with our breakfasts. The size of the breakfasts were incredible, the kids only had smalls but they too were huge!! We had another coffee after as there was no way we could get up let alone go anywhere, the kids found a nice selection of toys to play with while we enjoyed our coffees, I do think the coffee was an Italian brand beginning with R, I can't remember exactly but it was fantastic. My wife got chatting to a couple of group leaders who train cadets for ten tors, they apparently are nearly live in residents from February to May, the ten tors sounds like an amazing event, great for kids to get from in front of the TV. Anyway needless to say we spent a lot more time in the cafe over our stay, we had a look in the Bunkhouse too, all looks very nice, we are tent or bed and breakfast people so wouldn't stay there normally but with the fact for a family of four its £40 and you have a self catering area and such a fantastic cafe at hand then we may give it a try in the new year.
Thanks all the staff at Fox Tor Cafe.
Gary and the family.
i have been using the cafe now on a regular basis for several years its a great place to eat drink and meet people ,its great place to warm up after a long wet cold walk, i have introduced several of my friends to the cafe who are now also regulars,
FTC has been a haven for me to visit over a very trying time. Always friendly and considerate, with very good coffee and illegal cakes!
Historically, I consider Abbi a friend, and it was good to find that all the staff at FTC treat everyone as a friend. I will continue to make the trek to Princetown as often as I can!
Hi to all the staff and management at Fox Tor Cafe.
We stayed in Princetown for three days this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This cafe is an absolute gem which we used on a number of occasions. All the staff and management are very friendly and one chap (the manager / owner ?) took a genuine interest in what we were doing whilst staying in Princetown. He was very interested in our geocaching and said he would look further into it. Having wifi available for customers was a massive bonus as we could plan our routes early in the day using our laptop over a lovely mug (yes mug!!!) of tea / coffee. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and of an excellent quality.
The cafe has a lovely continental feel what with it selling cigarettes and having a small off-license. Very reasonably priced photos on sale as well. Loved the comfy sofas and I'm sure the log fires are great in the winter - we're going to try them for sure!
This is a business that is well run and has researched their market well - the sign at the front which states "muddy boots and paws welcome" encapsulates that completely.
We'll be back - have also recommended this as a geocaching friendly business on www.geocaching.com.
Best regards from Cornwall,
Gary and Kelly. :) :)
Thank you for your hospitality over the Ten Tors weekend the guys in my scrutineering team had heard about the legend of the FTC and were not dissapointed after some 3 visits in 24 hours. The apple and cinnamon and the lemon drizzle cakes rock!
See you next year.

" Having done a recki of Princetown last month it could never prepare us for our experiences this weekend. Taking 12 explorer scouts to a bunkhouse, unfortunately we were unable to get the one at the Fox Tor – maybe next time – we headed there for lunch on Saturday. We were not disappointed. Each of them choose something different from the menu and all had a drink – nothing was too much trouble, even in a large group. The food came out promptly and together and HOT. We then enquired about providing pasties for our lunch on Sunday – 15 in total! They didn’t have enough but before we left they had contacted their supplier and were having enough delivered for our order. We arrived unannounced on the Sunday and within ½ hour our pasties were all cooked. The service both days was brilliant and well worth a visit if you are ever in the area. The staff are polite, friendly, food good value for money – plenty of it at a very reasonable price. Next time your on Dartmoor check them out you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be back.

Stayed last week for 3 nights, service fantastic again, Dave & Abbi always happy to help with any little problems. Good food in the cafe.
See you again soon
Visited this morning for the first time ever and wanted to come back again this afternoon. Desperately trying to find a recipe for the Chocolate Chili and Peppermint Brownie I had with my cappucino. It was just fab! And my other half raved about the Bread Pudding. See you all again soon. Great place you have and thank you for welcoming Muddy Boots and Muddy Paws. Liz & Chris.

What a great place to restover after a good fifteen miles from Okehampton. The service in all respects was excellent; the bunkhouse, clean, tidy and warm ( what a change from others visited), and breakfast was superb. A shame (for us) that the rest of the world is going to know about it! Thank you Abbi and Dave.
I haven't been to here for nearly a year and hasn't it improved. Food comes out quicker and the cafe is cleaner and I love the new colours the whole place seems much brighter. We will be back soon, thanks again!!!
Breakfasted here last week. (5.4.2011) Just felt the need to express my delight in uncovering this gem of an establishment. Having camped overnight in the cold we felt the need of a good hearty breakfast. Only gutted we couldn't stay for lunch. Abbi and Dave, you'll be seeing us again! Sam (Saltash)
Another weekend spent in the Foxtor, no problems again, smiling faces, Dave happy & welcoming as normal even though we turned up late firday evening, food and service as good as normal, booked in for May for 3 days
Stayed on 25-26 March doing some walking training, even though Ten Tors training was happening all around Dave was always around, happy & helpful. Cafe was busy but stilll excellent food in good time.
Going back tomorrow for another weekend
We stayed for two nights over the 25th and 26th of March 2011. It's a nice warm clean place to stay and the new owners are like long lost friends, really keen to see that you have what you need and are happy. They have implemented a program of improvements which is ongoing and can only make things even better. We like the new outdoor seating area too.
Food in the cafe is served quickly and cheerfully, and is a nice platefull to start the day with.
Thank you, we will return!
Looked good on Countryfile.
Thanks for the best cream tea, EVER!!!! Will def be back!
